Artist Statement
Since violence is not only a reality in my home country Colombia but also a calamity that is shared with many other countries. I have created a body of work entitle Alegorias Collection that not only serves as a exploration of many aspects of Colombia but also as an reflection of those places that have experienced the destruction created by armed conflict. This body of work containing two series one made by three dimensional pieces, and the other by two dimensional paintings.
Although this collection was not created to make a visual rendering of the absolute reality of such complex problems, it does have the intention to remind people that:
“Violence doesn't finish at the end of a war, the consequences will follow the heritage of those violent actions, in our social behavior and our way of thinking.“

Series I (paintings)
The work evolves from the need to express thoughts though colors in the composition that begins with the deconstruction of the human form. In a process that starts with the understanding of a conflict that encapsulates multiple feelings like frustration, anger, hope and perhaps the opportunity of change. I capture this through the use of the woman’s body. A body that has the ability to transform and adapt as is represented in her natural ability to bring life. A life that is able to bring the opportunity of renewal. In a time in which anger and frustration can be polarizing, perhaps the sensuality of the female body can helps to change the entire equation. Therefore it becomes in a symbol of opportunity and renewal throughout my works.
Although my two dimensional work at first may seem distant from a political or social statement mainly because I stay away from evident and descriptive images of war and/or social intolerance. I do rely heavily in the power of color and the form of the human body. Specifically the female bodies to describe the social struggle among geometrical shapes that clash collide and vanished in each other. These geometrical figures represent social conditions that provoke ambivalence. Furthermore, I use a variety of mediums that enable me to fully express these complex emotions within my work.
Series II (Artifacts)
With my artifacts I explore from different perspectives the pain, anguish and terror produced by conflict. The artworks are created from modified commonly found objects, or by the combination of different mediums like casting, digital collages and the use of patinas to bring a particular character to the piece.
With this exploration I attempt to question the incapability of governments as well as our selves to learn from past mistakes. Mistakes that are reflected in our decision making process, since the continuity of endorsements for war continues to be placed above human dignity and safety. These images are an attempt to bring a voice of protest by reviving painful memories and creating a paradox between our realities and personal believes.
My collection can be seen as a denouncement and rejection of the atrocities that not only affect my country, but many other places around the world. As a result; the will for life, the respect for human life and its’ spirit are attached to all aspects of my paintings, as well as to the artifacts that complement the esthetics and dynamics of the paintings with an even stronger message of today’s social and political struggles
